Timber-treasures began life in 1980 when David Gladden, the owner of the business started turning wood. After a few years he was selling most of the work he produced locally from his Bristol based workshop in the southwest of England and in small, local gift shops. By 1995 he left his career as a teacher of History and began to take a growing interest in the shops where his woodwork sold so well. Today he owns three shops in the beautiful, tourist cities of Bath, Salisbury and Cheltenham which sell his work and a host of other handmade gifts. Please follow the links to find out more about these outlets. Having an eye for handmade items in wood and the shops in which to sell them brought David Gladden to the realisation that he would have to buy well made goods and sell them on because he could not make everything his growing organisation was capable of selling. He now imports quality, hand made wooden products from all over the world and it is mostly these that are showcased on this website. There are many unusual gift ideas such as the hand carved hearts (see Gifts for Loved Ones) , specialist items like the handmade Christian gifts from the Holy Land (see Gifts from Bethlehem, the village of the Nativity ) and loads of animal based items (take a look at Owls for a sample range). David Gladden still finds some time in his busy schedule to do some woodturning look for instance at old favourites such as Barometers (see Weather Instruments ).
