A carved wooden puzzle box shaped as the Green Man: a face wreathed in acanthus leaves, the lid and sides cut into interlocking sections that must be worked in sequence to open. Made in Bali, Indonesia, from warm-toned wood with a satin finish, the carving is deep and confident, leaf veins, brow furrows and the curve of the lips all clearly resolved. The hidden compartment inside is small but real. The opening mechanism is not obvious.
Sits well as an object in its own right. Each one is carved by hand and varies slightly in the grain and tone of the wood.
