Collection: Perpetual Calendars

How do perpetual calendars work?

Each calendar has a carved wooden figure, such as an owl, cat, elephant or mushroom, sitting atop a set of rotating blocks or bars. You turn these blocks to set the date and month, and the figure stays in place on top. Because there is no year printed on the blocks, the calendar never expires and can be used year after year.

All pieces are hand-carved in Indonesia. Some are left in natural wood stain, while others are painted in a range of colourways. Since each one is carved and finished by hand, the detail and colour vary between individual pieces, so the calendar that arrives will differ slightly from the photograph.

These are small enough to sit on a desk or shelf, making them an uncommon gift that serves a purpose without the waste of an annual calendar.
