How do yarn bowls work?

A yarn bowl holds a ball of wool or yarn while you work, with a slot cut into the rim that feeds the working yarn out under tension. This keeps the ball anchored in the bowl instead of rolling across the floor as you crochet or knit.

Both bowls in this collection are turned from solid wood in India. One features an engraved tree design; the other is striped mixed hardwood with a spiral slot. The three crochet hooks are turned individually with carved handles in 8mm, 9mm and 10mm sizes. Wood is warm in the hand and quieter to work with than metal or plastic. Because each piece is turned by hand, grain and colour vary from one to the next.

These are working tools rather than display pieces. Wood will develop a patina with use, and may show light surface marks from regular handling. This is part of their character.
