The croaking frog guiros are the ones nobody can walk past. A frog carved from acacia or rain tree wood in northern Thailand, with a row of ridges down its back and a hollow body underneath. Run the stick along the ridges and it croaks, properly, like the real thing. Five of them, from a pocket-sized mini at £6.25 up to a broad-bodied medium with a deeper voice, plain or finished in a crackle-painted rainbow.

Two djembe drums are turned and carved from a single piece of wood, the shells stained deep reddish-brown with an elephant or a gecko cut into the base, and a natural hide head.

Also here, though not instruments as such, are two sheet-music clips from India. Turned in rosewood, inlaid with brass and sprung like a peg, they are shaped as a saxophone and a quaver and will hold sheet music open or pin a note to a board.
