A large Raintree elephant, hand-carved in a village outside Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. At this size the carving has real presence: a broad, heavy head, deeply worked trunk with ribbed detail, and a body that sits with some weight on a surface. The wood is warm golden-brown, darkening to near-black in the deeper carved passages. Holds a mantelpiece or a corner shelf on its own terms.
Each elephant is carved and finished by hand, so grain, tone and finish vary between pieces.
