A narrow, long wooden box with a hinged lid, the top surface carved with a dense field of raised flowers set in a diamond grid, the sides cut with a simpler lattice. Dark-stained throughout, the carving sits in shadow against the warmer ground of the wood. Made in Indonesia in a tradition of hand-chisel relief work. The interior is a single plain channel, long enough for pens, incense sticks, a string of beads.
Each box is carved by hand; the density and spacing of the flower motifs varies slightly between pieces.
