A bamboo root duck carved tall and standing on one leg and one peg, dressed in a hand-painted pirate coat, striped shirt, black boots and a skull-and-crossbones top hat. The natural root grain shows through on the beak and neck; the body is painted in bold, flat colour with fine brushwork detail on the buttons and belt. Made in Bali, where bamboo root carving and hand-painting of this kind has been a workshop trade for generations. Stands well on a mantelpiece or shelf. Takes up about the same footprint as a large mug.

Each one is carved and painted by hand; colours and character vary between pieces.
