What is in this collection?
This collection gathers small wooden carvings, boxes, and painted pieces from across South and Southeast Asia, all under £10. The carved animals come from Indonesia in pale, light timber, ranging from hares and hedgehogs to dolphins, sharks and a howling wolf. Each sits comfortably in a palm. Alongside them are hand-painted hangings on dried peepal leaves from India in four colourways, carved and painted boxes from various origins, a perpetual calendar with a painted cat, fly agaric toadstools, fairy doors, and a Celtic triskelion disc.
Because each piece is carved or painted by hand, no two are quite the same. The timber varies subtly in grain and tone, and painted pieces show the individual mark of the maker's brush. These are genuine small gifts and stocking fillers, not miniatures made to look cheap. They come from small specialist workshops in Bali, Thailand and India, imported direct by Siesta Crafts since 1983.
